Ingredients
Black Chickpeas – 1 cup
Onion – 1 big, sliced
Ginger – ½ inch piece, chopped
Garlic - 3 cloves, chopped
Green chillies – 2, slitted
Curry leaves – a few
Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon
Dry chillies - 2
Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
Coriander powder – 1.5 tablespoons
Meat masala powder – 2 tablespoons
Salt – to taste
Oil – 3 tablespoons
Method
Wash and soak kadala overnight. Pressure cook kadala for 6
whistles and cook in low flame for 5 minutes. Heat oil in a pan and fry mustard
seeds, dry chilly and curry leaves. Add sliced onion, chopped ginger and garlic. Saute
for 2 minutes and add all the powders and fry for a minute. Now add the cooked kadala and salt. Let it boil for 2-3 minutes. Garnish with some coriander leaves and enjoy with Kerala’s
most popular breakfast item puttu.
